DIA’s Randomness Oracle, Now Available on Vara Network

We are delighted to integrate with Gear Protocol and bring xRandom, DIA’s distributed and verifiable randomness oracle, to the Vara L1, unlocking a wide range of new Web3 use cases.

DIA’s Randomness Oracle, Now Available on Vara Network

Introducing Gear Protocol & Vara Network

Gear Protocol is a next-generation WebAssembly smart contract platform based on Substrate. What sets Gear apart is its innovative implementation of the Actor model and Persistent memory within Substrate. This unique combination enables Gear to offer asynchronous contract execution, immutable programs through Persistent memory, and a user-friendly API interface that is both minimal and robust.

Vara Network emerges as a fast and scalable Layer-1 decentralized network fueled by the power of Gear Protocol. With its non-fork upgradable architecture, Vara Network provides an ideal environment for next-generation gaming experiences, financial-based applications, and a wide range of experimental features. However, its capabilities extend far beyond those domains. Vara Network is designed to be a versatile platform that supports diverse use cases, empowering developers and users alike to explore the limitless possibilities of Web3 technology.

DIA deploys its randomness oracle on the Vara Network

We are delighted to announce a new integration with Gear Protocol to bring DIA xRandom to the Vara Network’s ecosystem of Web3 tooling. The new deployment will make unpredictable and unbiased random numbers accessible via oracle smart contract to developers building on the Vara network. The randomness oracle will allow for the creation of a variety of on-chain applications on Vara such as lotteries, randomised NFTs, gaming and many more.

Introducing DIA xRandom

In close collaboration with drand, xRadom provides dApps with an auditable random number generation system that is designed to tackle essential Web3 development needs:

  • Verifiable randomness: due to the deterministic nature of blockchains, it is very difficult to create random events on-chain. All random values provided by DIA are verifiable off-chain, before becoming available to consuming smart contracts and hence, the oracle is not capable of manipulating the generated result.
  • Distributed and decentralised: DIA’s xRandom leverages drand, a distributed beacon generated by a network of participants named the League of Entropy — LoE. As drand is not singularly controlled by any of its members, there is no single point of failure and none of the operators themselves can bias the randomness generated by the League.
  • Powering on-chain use cases: blockchains like Vara provide a playground for developing and running your dApps. DIA’s xRandom enables a wide range of new Web3 use cases and applications including gaming, lotteries, prediction markets, NFT launches and many more.

Use cases powered by DIA xRandom

By bringing unpredictable and unbiased random number generation to the Vara network, DIA xRandom will enable a wide range of dApp use cases, including:

  • On-chain lottery: due to the deterministic nature of blockchains, decentralised applications require trustless and tamper-proof on-chain random numbers to execute lotteries.
  • Randomized NFTs: a random number can enable the randomised assignment of characteristics and attributes for non-fungible tokens
  • On-chain gaming: xRandom can be used to generate unpredictable scenarios and rewards, creating engaging experiences for on-chain games.
